Leigh Harriers had six teams racing yesterday (1st November) at the National Cross Country Relays in Mansfield.
The U13 Girl's team finished 58th; Grace Warburton ran the first leg in a time of 8.31. On second leg was Rachel McGoldrick who ran 9.08 and Maria McGoldrick completed the team with a time of 9.27.
The U15 Girls were the joint-highest finishing Leigh team of the day. The team of Shannon Johnson (7.34), Elizabeth Lee (7.55) and Bethany Jones (7.35) finished in 9th position.
The U15 Boys finished in 55th place. Led off by Richard Powell (6.55), who passed on to Adam Howarth (7.24), with J Jones (7.50) anchoring the team home.
The U17 Girls also finished in 9th position overall, with all three girls running under ten minutes. Amy Riley (9.51) ran the 1st leg and handed over to Abigail Howarth (9.55). Laura Riches (9.16) pulled back 8 places on the final stage.
In the Senior Men's race Leigh finished 50th and had three runners in an incomplete 'B' team. The 'A' team consisted of Neil Pendlebury (16.41), Tony Battersby (16.52), Tommy Henders (16.40) and Alex Urmston (18.18). Running in the 'B' team were Sean Spillane (20.32), Jimmy Cooke (19.12) and John Howarth (18.35).
Also running were Lauren Howarth (Birmingham University) and Becky Howarth (Durham University). Both sisters ran in the Junior (U20) Women's race, Becky ran on 1st leg for Durham and came in in 15th position with a time of 9.03. Lauren took over from her Birmingham Universtiy team mate in 1st position and ran the 8th fastest time of the day with 8.32.
