The Schools Track & Field Championships took place on Saturday 8th June and athletes from Leigh Harriers competed in their various area championships.
In the Greater Manchester Championships the Leigh athletes won three gold medals and four silver, whilst in the Cheshire Championships one gold and one bronze, and the Merseyside one gold.
Joseph Wane ran a hard fought battle in the senior boys 800m, he clocked 1:56.23 and added to his area titles of GM Champion, Northern Silver Medalist.
Lewis Forster was on form, he threw another personal best in the Junior Boys Javelin with a distance of 43.68 to win gold and adding to his Greater Manchester Champion title.
In the Merseyside Schools Championships Josh Knox threw the Discus 1.75k a distance of 36.96m to take Gold and in the Cheshire Championships Scarlett Moss Turner recorded a throw of 36.50m in the Junior Girls 3k Hammer. Staying in the Cheshire Championships Melissa Ince JG clocked 2:26.9 for a bronze medal.
In the Senior Boys Pole Vault, Karran Kapur-Walton vaulted 3.60m to win gold for Salford Schools.
Adam Swift raced to gold in the senior boys 200m clocking 24.17 secs. Callum Charlson has found his best distance in the 300m taking silver medal and clocking 39.99 sec.
Nieve Robinson Junior Girl, ran a well judged race to win a silver medal, clocking 2:22.4, whilst Megan Short won her hear easily taking 6th place overall with 2:32.04. Lily Edwards JG raced in the 1500m taking 11th place in 5:23.46.
Emily Lewtas won silver with her throw of 30.87m in the Senior Girl’s Javelin and taking home another silver was Grace Craddock in the Junior Girls High Jump, she cleared 1.40m pb.
Matthew Howkin Inter Boy, placed 2nd in his heat of the 100m 11.59 sec to win a place in the Final when he clocked 11.72 for 5th place. In the Junior Boys Javelin competition, Daniel Senior was just outside the medals taking 4th place with a throw of 27.14m whist fellow team mate Lucas Collins wasn’t far behind with a throw of 26.94m.
Athletes who finished in 1st or 2nd place will be invited to compete in the Mason Trophy Inter Counties Competition on Saturday 15th June at Alexander Stadium Birmingham to compete for their respective counties and to gain qualification standards if they haven’t already done so.
