Nineteen year old Leigh Harrier Keely Hodgkinson achieved her ambition to stand on the podium in the Tokyo Olympic Games by racing to a silver medal and at the same time improved her PB in a time of 1:55.88 breaking the British record set by Kelly Holmes in 1995 . She holds the UK U20, U23 and senior records, along with the European U20 record, becoming the fourth fastest world under-20 woman of all time.
Keely joined Leigh Harriers at the age of 9 when she ran in the Leigh Schools XC Championships. Her record is impressive, being double Greater Manchester Champions in 800m and 1200m as a first year U13 and then on a double champion in the 800m and 1500m.
At the age of 16 Keely clocked 2:04.84 to become European Athletics U18 Champion in Gyor Hungary
